Monarch Airlines

At Monarch Airlines, a large effort was being made to re-design and modernise the entire software suite of customer facing products. This started with the Fare Finder - a tool which users could use to easily search for flights based on various criteria. Followed by Holiday Search and a completely overhauled Flight Booking system. I was placed as the lead designer on this project and put in charge of the entire end-to-end design process.

Fare Finder

Many times, the customer doesn't mind where they go, as long as the trip fits within their budget. By developing a Fare Finder tool, it enabled users to put price at the forefront of their search, with everything else taking a backseat in importance. Since Monarch was a budget airline, this tool would've facilitated a greater volume of bookings.

Flight Select (Mobile)

Flight select on mobile was the bread and butter of the experience. Analytics showed that mobile was used by nearly 70% of all customers to book flights so that is where we turned our attention.

Upsell Banner

Much of the revenue that budget airlines make comes from upselling additional seating, baggage and various other products. Below is an example of an eye-catching upsell banner I created to encourage users to book a seat, playing on comfort as the form of persuasion.

Car Hire

One product we offered at Monarch was car hire. This is an essential product as its extremely common for travellers to want to book a vehicle in their destination country. I had a meeting with the care hire API vendor in order to understand the limitations of the implementation before embarking on the design, to ensure that I didn't design anything that would be impossible for the developers to implement.

Loading Spinner

To show how proud we were of the product and Monarch Airlines in general, I created a small micro-moment for users in the form of a custom loading spinner for when data is loading. It is designed in a way that, when spinning, appears that a trail is forming from the back of the plane.
